Abstract

This study determines the lived experiences of parents with PWD children at San Roque, Peñablanca, Cagayan. A qualitative research design has been selected carefully because it is ideal for capturing the variety and depth of personal experiences. The study included ten participants: six female and four male parents of children with disability. These participants were chosen using a convenience sampling, ensuring that the sample was representative and relevant to the research objectives. To collect the relevant data, the researchers used open-ended questions and semi-structured interviews. This approach allowed for greater flexibility and in-depth responses, allowing participants to express their experiences and viewpoints in their own words. In analyzing the data, Colaizzi’s Method of Data Analysis was utilized to determine the lived experiences of parents with PWD children at San Roque, Peñablanca, Cagayan. The seven step was carefully followed to ensure a thorough and accurate understanding of the parents' experiences. The results indicate that parents of children with disability in San Roque, Peñablanca, Cagayan describe their care giving experiences as physico-emotional complexity. The respondents describe their experience as physically exhausting and emotionally challenging. These parents face an oppressive parenting challenge, including behavioral issues, financial difficulties, social obstacles, struggles with accessing healthcare, and a lack of support systems. Each of these challenges adds a layer of complexity to their daily lives, requiring them to navigate various demanding situations simultaneously. In response to these oppressive parenting, parents employ holistic coping methods such as financial strategies, psychological strategies and interpersonal. Overall, the experiences of these parents highlight the need for greater support systems, improved access to healthcare, and increased awareness of the unique challenges faced by families with children with disability. Addressing these issues can significantly improve the quality of life for both the children and their parents.
